Overview
TripRWS is a WeChat Mini Program designed to enhance the travel experience at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), Singapore. Built during the WeChat Developer Challenge 2019, the app won the Public Vote Award, showcasing its impact and appeal to users.
Objective
The goal was to design a seamless experience for Chinese tourists visiting RWS by:
- Helping users discover attractions and amenities
- Providing smart, personalized recommendations
- Allowing real-time bookings and itinerary planning
- Overcoming language and navigation barriers
Research & Discovery
We studied the challenges of Chinese tourists in Singapore, particularly:
- Language and cultural differences
- Need for quick, curated travel information
- WeChat behavior patterns
We also looked at successful Mini Programs to learn what resonates with Chinese users.
User Personas
- Zhang Wei (35, Parent Traveler): Needs family-friendly planning and easy navigation.
- Li Na (28, Solo Explorer): Looks for personalized exploration and quick bookings.
Design Process
1. User Flow & Information Architecture
Designed simple flows for discovery, booking, and itinerary management.
2. Wireframes & Prototypes
Started with low-fidelity sketches and moved to hi-fi Figma prototypes optimized for WeChat’s style.
3. Visual Language
- Used RWS’s brand palette (reds, golds, ocean blues)
- Adopted WeChat’s native UI style
- Implemented microinteractions and location-aware components
Key Features
- Smart Guide: Contextual recommendations based on time/weather
- Itinerary Builder: Drag-and-drop schedule planner
- AR Photo Spots: Selfie prompts across the resort
- Live Booking: Integrated ticket and restaurant reservations
- Simplified Chinese: Full Chinese localization for ease of use
Outcome & Impact
- 🏅 Won Public Vote Award during the live event
- 🚀 90% of demo users completed itinerary planning in under 3 minutes
- 💬 Received positive feedback on design clarity and ease of use
Reflections & Learnings
- WeChat UX has unique needs—localized simplicity is key
- Geo-location and time-aware content dramatically improved experience
- User feedback emphasized the importance of visual clarity and fast flow
